Dale B Designs - Surface Pattern Design Website
Dale is a watercolour artist and new surface pattern designer. She was looking for a website to showcase her art and particularly her patterns.
Requirements:
Gentle, calm design, muted tones
Clean and fresh looking, lots of white space
Needed to appeal to both licensing for companies and pattern end users such as Spoonflower shoppers
Needed to fit her demographic looking for soft florals and original watercolour art
Wanted plant based line art in the background
Elements:
I chose a palette taken from her mood board and artwork - off white, oxblood, taupe and moss green
The oxblood for the headings and buttons stands out, but is still a muted nature tone
The fonts were chosen from some suggested pairings - classic serif for the headers and a modern sans for the body and buttons
The home page hero image was from a mockup I created in Photoshop from a stock image with her pattern applied
The background line art was taken from her sketches and turned into .png files with transparency and low opacity
Cutout appliquéd elements from her watercolours were added as a decorative touch
Lots of images of her patterns as mockups and her working on her art were required to show her work is genuine and hand-crafted
Her portfolio page was done as a portfolio collection with ample room to add additional collections of patterns
